The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has been called
upon to arrest and investigate the National Coordinator of Northern
Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid
Mohammed, over his remarks that there will be mayhem if the 2015 polls
are rigged in favour of incumbent President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. The call was made by a group under the aegis of Association of
Northern Youth for the Advancement of Peace, Harmony and Development
(ANYPAD) in a press statement issued in Jos, Plateau State by its
President, Melvin Ejeh and Secretary, Kabiru Adamu Muhammed. The group while reacting to media reports which quoted Dr. Junaid
Mohammed as saying there will be mayhem if President Jonathan rigs the
2015 polls, described it as a provocative statement capable of
“undermining the fragile peace in the North and Nigeria at large”. According to the group, “We view this statement not only as inciting,
but reckless and senseless, though, we are not surprised because recent
happenings have shown that Dr. Junaid Mohammed is a religious bigot who
does not see beyond his bedroom, and would do everything to frustrate
anything that’s not within his immediate benefit. “We wonder what Dr. Junaid and his cohorts intend to achieve by
trying to further divide the North instead of doing everything possible
to unite us. “We further wonder what stake he has in the North to dictate to
General Onoja and co on the candidate to support in 2015 presidential
election. Don’t Gen. Onoja and everybody in the North has (sic) the
right of choice?” the group asked. To this end, the group said, “We urge the Inspector General not to
undermine the statement, but to arrest and investigate Dr. Junaid,
because statements like this, made by some of his close associates in
2010 before PDP Presidential primaries, militarized Boko Haram and
heightened the insecurity in the north today”.
