Customs Officer Shoots Motorist Twice At Close Range, Injures 2 At Seme Border

A Customs officer has shot and killed a motorist, injuring two others at the Seme Border area of Lagos State. The deceased identified as Friday Poku, and three other persons, were said to have been crossing the border in his red Volkswagen Jetta saloon car with registration number GGE 81 AH, when the incident occurred. It was learnt that the Customs officer’s act infuriated the youths in the area who stormed the streets and made bonfire in the middle of the road, preventing other road users access to the border.
Customs officers posted at other border posts were said to have taken to their heels for fear of being lynched, immediately they heard the youths were out on the streets. The deceased, according to eyewitnesses, was allegedly flagged down by the officers at one of the illegal check points at Gbetrome area of the border. When the deceased was stopped, he got down and engaged the officers in dialogue. The officer allegedly shot him in the process with his service pistol, firing his gun twice at close range. The three other passengers tried to apprehend the fleeing Customs officers, but they were shot repeatedly by the officers as they fled. The angry youths in the area who carried the corpse from where it was abandoned, demanded that the Customs comptroller should hand over the trigger happy officer to the police for prosecution as they marched to the nearby customs barracks. They condemned claims by the Customs officers that the deceased and the injured persons were smugglers. The intervention of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Seme Division, Mr. Muazu Mohammed, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), was what brought normalcy back to the area, but not until the youths shattered the windshield of the police patrol van.
In his reaction, youth chairman at the J5 park, Seme, who identified himself as Dosu said they wouldn’t allow anyone to sweep the killing under the carpet as in the past. He alleged that the killing of villagers was becoming one too many on the part of the Customs, who fire indiscriminately at villagers and in order to cover their tracks, claim that the victims were shot at because they are smugglers. “We have had enough of this wanton killings and we want the controller to hand over the killer to the police to investigate the matter. Also, why is it that the officers involved in the incident have not gone to make statement at the station since the matter is homicide and the deceased’s vehicle taken away by custom and not the police,” he said. He noted that the action of the customs service was to afford them the opportunity to conceal vital evidence that might unravel the situation that led to the death of the deceased since they knew they were guilty of murdering the poor man.Customs Public Relations Officer (PRO), Seme Command, Mr. Ernest Ollotah, a Deputy Superintendent of Customs, however, said he was not aware of any killing, rather, the investigation at hand was the case of an attempt to disarm some Customs officers by some smugglers, who fled the area, after they were repelled by security men. “I am not aware of any killing, but we are investigating an attempt to disarm some of our men by smugglers. However, we will make the outcome of the investigations known to the public,” he said. Sources however said police claimed otherwise as the situation report at the Police Command headquarters, Ikeja, clearly stated that the deceased was shot and killed by some Customs officers at Gbetrome area of Seme.

Oloyede Accuses Jonathan Of Being Unfair To Muslims In Cabinet Appointments

Secretary General of Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Professor Ishaq Oloyede has accused the government of President Goodluck Jonathan of being unfair and unjust to the Western Nigerian Muslims. Speaking to journalists immediately after observing his Eid prayer at the Egba Praying ground Lantoro Abeokuta, Ogun state, Oloyede said muslims in Western Nigeria had remained very tolerant though the Federal government did not appoint any muslim from the region as cabinet member.
“We want to appeal to the Federal government of Nigeria to be fair to all. Is it an accident that throughout the South West of Nigeria, there is no cabinet member who is a Muslim. So we continue to say that Muslims are intolerant, Muslims are these, I think it is important for us to be fair and to be just”, he said.
“We might be doing things, we might be thinking that we are clever, that we think people do not see us, that people do not observe what we are doing, but we are deceiving ourselves. I think the truth of the matter is that we should be fair to all, we should be equitable to all, in such a way that we would not let ourselves to those people who are hell bent on disturbing, or disintegrating this peaceful Community of ours”. Professor Oloyede added, “If we are just, if we are equitable, it does not matter the religion of whomever is in power or where somebody comes from”.
He said the effects of the unjust act may result into disintegration of the country and creation of more crisis adding that,if not checked, “of course we are calling for continuity of inequities and disintegration”.
He however advised Muslims to continue to imbibe the spirit of ramadan, adding that, “all muslims in Nigeria should continue with the piety which the month of Ramadan brought to our community, to continue to be law abiding, peaceful and committed to the propagation of the religion of Islam”.

Nigeria’s National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) today arrested a 46-year-old bricklayer from Anambra, who attempted to smuggle 2.07kg of cocaine into the country.
A statement by the Spokesman of the NDLEA, Mr Mitchell Ofoyeju, said the suspect was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, with 83 wraps of substance that had tested positive to cocaine.
“He was detected with the help of scanning machines during the screening of passengers on an Asky Airline flight from Brazil.”
Ofoyeju said the suspect was recruited by a drug cartel in Brazil and when arrested excreted one of the highest quantity of cocaine ingested at a time so far this year.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that drug barons now have agents who move from village to village in search of drug mules.
“They have several antics, which include promise of better job opportunities abroad. The case is under investigation.”
Ofoyeju quoted the suspect, a bricklayer at Alor Village in Anambra, as saying he was lured to sell family land in order to travel abroad in search of job opportunities.
“I got to Brazil on July 10 and all attempts to get a job was unsuccessful. That was when they sold the idea of drug trafficking to me.
“Initially I objected but when there was no other option, I succumbed. They made me to swallow 83 wraps of cocaine which was detected by NDLEA officers,” he said.

Is This Really From Prophet TB Joshua?

I don’t know how to judge this issue so i’ll leave it up to you all, my faithful readers. It seems there might be a fake TB Joshua handle out there. This is why, see one of his latest prayers below and tell us if you think this is from TB Joshua:

It was learnt that Festus, who is from Umuseti in Nduka West LGA of Delta state, was classmates with the real Chris Omeleze. They attended Ndemili Grammar school and finished in 1987.

Group Calls For Wike’s Arrest, Prosecution Over Inciting Statement In Rivers

The Rivers Peoples’ Forum (RPF) has called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike over his comments in Port Harcourt at the weekend, which they say is dangerous to democracy in the country and threatens the peace and security of Rivers State and could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the State, if the Minister is not checked.
At an event last week Saturday in Port Harcourt, Wike had said that, “for those who think that they can destroy Obio-Akpor (Local Govern-ment Council), we will make life uncomfortable for them. We will make sure they will not sleep again. When they are sleeping, they will not sleep with their two eyes closed. One eye will be open because they know there is danger.”
Wike was alleged to be referring to the former Chairman and Councilors of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area who were suspended by the Rivers State House of Assembly for the House to carry out investigations of monumental fraud and corruption against them.
RPF in a statement signed by its President, Charles Bekwele described the comments of Wike as a direct threat to the good people of Rivers State, that can lead to a breach of peace and security, and security agencies must now take steps to curtail the excesses of Nyesom Wike.
“First, Obio-Akpor Council was not destroyed. Its former Council Chairman Timothy Nsirim and Councilors were only suspended by the Rivers State House of Assembly to enable the House investigate allegations of monumental fraud and corruption against them. And the State Assembly had repeatedly said they would be reinstated if they are not found guilty at the end of the investigations. And we must also bear in mind that it is constitutionally the function of the State legislators to oversee, supervise and check the excesses of local councils”
These legislators were elected by Rivers people to represent them in the Assembly. This also means that whatever action they take in the House(including the suspension) was taken by Rivers people since we voted for them and gave them our mandate to represent us in the Assembly. This then translates to the fact that the junior minister’s threat is a direct threat to the good people of Rivers State.”
“Nyesom Wike must be arrested and prosecuted now for threatening the lives of Rivers people, for threatening the peace and security of Rivers State. As a matter of fact, his comments are dangerous to our democracy, Wike is a danger to our democracy. Comments like that can easily lead to a breach of peace in the state. The Inspector General of Police, the Director-General, State Security Service(SSS) must act now to arrest and prosecute Wike for threatening the peace and security of the State. His excesses must be curtail, Rivers people have had enough of Wike’s shenanigans.”

Four Expats, Two Locals Kidnapped In Rivers

Two Nigerians and four expatriates were allegedly kidnapped yesterday in Buguma, Asaritoru local government area of Rivers state while on their way to the state government’s owned fish farm in the area.
Confirming the development to newsmen in Port Harcourt, commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Emmanuel Chinda said one of them later died in a bid to escape.
According to him, the kidnappers forced all of them into a waiting boat, but later released the two Nigerians.
The Commissioner said the four expatriates were from Thailand, noting that one of the Nigerians released in the middle of the high sea by the kidnappers out of panic jumped into the sea and drowned.
“A group of six workers consisting of two Nigerians and four Thailand nationals, were on their way to our Buguma Fish Farm when they were forced to a halt by some gun-totting marauders, who forced them into another boat.
“While they tried to force them into the creek, one of the Nigerians out of fear jumped into the water and instantly drowned.
“They forced the other Nigerian out of the boat and made away with the four foreigners. The kidnappers have before now discontinued all these acts of aggression and criminal acts, until they became emboldened by the fact that they believe that security is out of the state Government’s hand and that they have superiority over the security agents.
Now, the danger is that they are all coming out of their hiding and terrorizing people of the state,” the Commissioner said

Drama In Court As Client Attempts To Swindle Lawyer

A woman who allegedly presented a dud cheque to her lawyer as payment for his legal services in an attempt to outsmart him left people present at the Surulere Magistrate’s court, Lagos, wondering why anyone would do that.
The client, a staff of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, Mrs Nnenna Christiana Olusile, appeared in court with a new lawyer, prompting the Magistrate, Mrs R.B Lawal, to ask why she changed her lawyer when her former lawyer Charles Alonge was also in court. She was however oblivious of his presence
Following threats of possible dismissal initiated through a query by her office after report of her arrest was published in the dailies, Olushile reportedly sought the services of Alonge, the lawyer who was said to have answered the query, thereby averting the perceived dismissal threat. The case, as gathered, was charged to court where Alonge stood as counsel to the accused and her husband.
However, when the Magistrate observed the change of counsel after Olushile’s case was mentioned, she could not hide her displeasure and insisted that the former lawyer, Alonge, be paid his fees before the new lawyer would be allowed to appear before her.
“You can not properly appear yet because he(Alonge) said they are owing him, I don’t like clients to owe lawyers because that is their office and I also don’t like clients jumping from one lawyer to another. I am aware that this matter was published and I tried my best to grant the accused bail in a very liberal term. I hope she is aware that there is a criminal charge against her,” she said.
On his part, Mr Alonge, explained that, “I called the counsel this morning and told him in her presence that she called me a rogue and all sorts of names which made me to formerly withdraw the matter. I want it to be on record that they are still owing me and I inisist that my fee be paid before any other lawyer can continue with the case. It all started when she presented a dud cheque to me and I reported to the police prior to today’s hearing.”
The court, therefore, advised the lawyer to take the case to the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, Ikoyi.
It was learnt that the relationship between Olusile and her lawyer went sour following the former’s alleged refusal to pay him for his legal services on the case of stealing and obtaining items worth N300,000.
Olushile, a resident of 16, Michael Akinwunmi Street Alakuko, Lagos, was alleged to have specialized in hypnotizing sales girls and carting away goods in their shops. But nemesis caught up with her in August 2012, when she reportedly went to a boutique located at Akerele area in Surulere Lagos, where she met a 20-year-old sales girl and allegedly made away with goods worth N300,000 without paying a dime.
The sales girl who realised that she had been duped immediately she left contacted her boss who reported to policemen from Bode Thomas Station, Surulere. A manhunt for Olushile was launched and she was arrested in February this year.
“The only thing the girl told us was that she did not suspect any foul play, from the way the woman carried herself and her familiarity with the environment.
“She said the woman even called her husband on phone and the assurance he gave her made her release the items. The phone number she left, coupled with the information that she is a PHCN employee were the only enabling lead to trace and arrest her.
“When we arrested her, she denied ever engaging in any criminal act and at a point, we were afraid whether we had arrested the wrong person. But the Divisional Police Officer ordered two of our female colleagues to take her inside to establish whether she had tattoos on her body as the sales girl earlier disclosed. That was when she owned up that she was the right person but said that the goods she bought were worth N70,000 as against the N300,000 the girl claimed,” the Investigating Police Officer said.

The EFF’s president was born 3 March, 1981. He was a former youth leader of South Africa’s ruling party, the African National Congress, but after a series of suspensions from the party for hate speeches and for sowing racial discord in the party, he was expelled in 2012.
