Jonathan’s rejection of amended constitution shocks Senate

President Goodluck Jonathan’s letter to the National Assembly rejecting amendments to the 1999 Constitution was received with shock by some members who openly expressed surprise at the reasons given by the President to veto the bill. The letter was read on the floor of Senate on Wednesday by the Senate President, David Mark.

Supreme Court affirms Fayose’s victory

The Supreme Court on Tuesday affirmed Ayodele Fayose as the winner and the duly elected governor of Ekiti State in the June 21, 2014 election. In a unanimous decision by the seven-man panel led by Justice John Fabiyi, the apex court upheld the earlier decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Ekiti State Governorship Election Tribunal, both of which had earlier ruled that the petition challenging Fayose’s victory lacked merit.

I’ll restore military ties with US –Buhari

The President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Tuesday said his administration would restore military cooperation with the United States of America. In an article published by the New York Times in its Tuesday edition, Buhari promised to among other things reformed the military. The outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration had cancelled the training component of its military cooperation with the US citing a lack of sincerity on the part of the Americans for its decision.
Ceremonies were   staged in Abuja and Lagos on Tuesday to mark one year since   over 200 schoolgirls were abducted by Boko Haram from their college hostel in Chibok, Borno State. Two hundred and nineteen female pupils, representing each of the yet-to-be freed Chibok schoolchildren took part in a procession in Abuja   while in Lagos, two young men added a little bizarre twist to the event by chaining themselves for two hours on the 3rd Mainland Bridge.

I Won’t Appoint PDP Defectors As Ministers – Buhari

President-elect Muhammadu Buhari said ‎the All Progressives Congress (APC) has nothing to fear over mass defection of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to the party. “I have no fears of PDP defectors,” he said in an interview in his Daura residence on Saturday. Buhari said the PDP chieftains will have very little influence in the APC government. He said APC has all the capacity to manage the large numbers of PDP defectors.

Couple Burnt To Death In Lagos After Power Surge

Tragedy struck in Lagos in the early hours of Saturday, as a young couple was burnt to death in their apartment. The victims, simply identified as Ayo and Jumoke, were said to have died in the fire which razed their apartment at 34, Associate Crescent, Abimbola Awoniyi Estate, New Oko-Oba area of Agege. One Feared Dead As Crisis Rocks Oshodi



One person has been reported dead after crisis erupted in Oshodi area of Lagos, Thursday evening.
