Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, on Thursday
reiterated his commitment to making the Nigerian police corruption-free,
vowing to flush out bad eggs in the Force, adding that he would never
preside over a corrupt police service. Making the promise in Abuja while answering questions from State
House correspondents over the police officer dismissed on Wednesday for
demanding N25,000 bribe from a motorist in Lagos, Abubakar said the
punishment was not too harsh and warned that any police officer caught
in corrupt practices would not be spared.
Abubakar said the NPF was ICT compliant, and would therefore continue
to use modern telecommunication gadgets in apprehending corrupt
officers.
“You can see that we are IT compliant; we know what is happening in the YouTube, we know what is happening all over the world.
“We believe that we have to do what is right. We monitor our officers
and men. Sometimes we even set them up to ensure that we get them on
the act.
“I will not run a corrupt police service,” Abubakar said.
Abubakar therefore assured Nigerians of adequate security of lives and property during and after Sallah celebration
He enjoined the people to continue to support the law enforcement
agencies by providing them with useful information to address insecurity
across the country.
Abubakar also commended the media for its cooperation and support to the police in combating criminal activities in the country.
