Former Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun will return to Spain after eight years, to join Getafe, after finding an agreement on wages with the Spanish side. The 33-year-old is now a free agent since leaving Chelsea and therefore is entitled to move to any club of his choice, despite the fact the transfer window is closed. The Israel international was dropped by his national team-coach for lack of match fitness. Although he wanted to stay in the Premier League as his family are settled in England, however negotiations with both Crystal Palace and West Brom failed as he was offered a far lower salary than Getafe.
Benayoun left Spain in 2005, after two very good years with Racing Santander and joined West Ham United. Yossi enjoyed a couple of good seasons before he was snapped up by Rafael Benitez
in 2007 for his Liverpool side. During his three years’ stay at the
Merseyside club, he has played over 130 matches and has scored 29 goals
for the Reds.
Following the departure of Benitez, Benyaoun was left packing his
bags too, as he joined Chelsea, where he had a torrid time and was sent
on loan to Arsenal in 2011-12, where he scored four goals in 19 league appearances.
Last season, he was sent on loan to West Ham again, where he couldn’t
recapture his old form. Now, staring down the apogee of his career,
probably moving to Spain, where he first left a big impression would be
ideal. Getafe, meanwhile have started the season poorly having taken
only one point from their first three games.
