Arsenal close in on Real Madrid duo Ozil and Di Maria

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is thought to be monitoring the Real Madrid duo Mesut Ozil and Angel di Maria and is reportedly looking to lodge a bid for the two players, who would be available at a combined price of around £60 million. The Frenchman has targeted Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema last week, but the striker has made it clear that he wants to stay at the Bernabeu. Wenger has, since then shifted his attention to other players of Madrid, like Di Maria and Ozil and both of whom could be sold by the club, should they complete a world-record transfer for Gareth Bale from Tottenham. The problem for Arsenal is, the timing of the transfer is being dictated by Spurs and Madrid would certainly keep hold of the duo, if they fail to sign Bale. Though, in all probability, the Welshman will be a player for the Los Blancos in the next few days, if not today. This has been one hell of a frustrating summer for the Gunners. For the first time in many years, Wenger has been backed with transfer war-chest but so far, the club has failed to lure any major names. Wenger’s top priority this summer has been to land a centre- forward. Arsenal were linked with Gonzalo Higuain and Luis Suarez throughout the summer, but having failed to land a top striker, he is looking for other alternatives to bolster the attacking unit at the club. It has been reported that the Gunners were in preliminary talk with Madrid over a possible £26 million deal for Di Maria and their offer has been approved. Wenger believes that Di Maria would add pace to his side and a very different option to the right/left side of his attack. Likewise, Ozil is a world-class playmaker who would improve any team in this world immensely.
However, the question remains – Can Arsenal secure a deal for the duo? With time running out and Bale saga not yet resolved, false hope is the last thing the fans want at this moment.
