Following a reported £10M bid from Manchester United for Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, manager Rudi Garcia has made in clear to the Premier League side that De Rossi isn’t for sale.
‘Daniele de Rossi isn’t only a big player, but he’s also a big man. He has been here at Roma for a long time and he wants to play with this jersey. We spoke when he came back from his holidays and we said he would certainly remain with us. He will stay here for the whole season and this is something that satisfies me a lot.’
Manchester United have been in the market for a central-midfielder
for a number of seasons, but have so far failed to sign anyone. This
summer, they had appeared closer than ever to signing one of their
targets. Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, Everton’s Marouane Fellaini, and Athletico Bilbao’s Ander Herrera have all been on manager David Moyes’ wish list, but the side have failed in their bid to procure any of their signatures. The Premier League champions have seen every offer rejected for all
of their targets, and are now looking likely of giving up at least until
the January window opens. Moyes did reveal he’s still in the market to sign a midfielder, but
concedes the side may not add to their current squad – such has been the
difficulty in signing the right player. De Rossi has long been admired by many sides throughout the years,
but his advancing age would suggest it’s now or never in signing him.
Roma deem his value far more than the £10M Manchester United stumped up
with to try and sign him, but it doesn’t look as if they will make an
improved bid before the transfer window closes.
