Arsenal to sign Demba Ba on loan from Chelsea?

As we said earlier that Arsenal are going to dominate this transfer deadline day today, whether or not they can bring in some new faces, only time will tell that. According to reports from BBC journalist David Ornstein, the Gunners are holding talks with Chelsea to sign striker Demba Ba on a season long loan.
The Guardian journalist Dominic Fifield adds to this:”Demba Ba could be this year’s Yossi Benayoun, in terms of joining Arsenal from Chelsea on a season-long loan.” The Senegal international joined the Blues in the January transfer window last season from Newcastle United and managed two league goals in 14 appearances for the London club. This season, under Jose Mourinho, he has yet to open his goal scoring account. With Chelsea failing to sign any top striker in the summer, one might think why the Blues would sell a forward, especially to their rivals at this stage of the transfer window? The Blues meanwhile have bolstered their attacking options, by adding quality attacking midfielders to an already existing avalanche of stars. The Portuguese manager therefore could feel that he has done enough to strengthen the attacking department for this season. Further, he is looking to give youngster Romelu Lukaku considerable amount of chances this season to establish himself as a top striker. From Arsenal’s point of view, the deal makes sense. Through out the summer, they have tried to land a quality striker, but have failed to do so. However, Ba is a proven Premier League striker, plus the finances are not hampered too much as the Gunners are signing him on loan only.
