Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Mr. Fred Igwe, was on Sunday shot by suspected assassins, reports have said. Details are still sketchy though, but the state Police Public
Relations Officer, DSP Angela Agabe, yesterday, confirmed the
development. According to her, the commissioner was responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the state. Agabe said that some unknown gunmen opened fire on him at Akpajo area

the murder attempt, adding that she was yet to get details on the
incident. The commissioner was said to be in a Toyota Corolla with plate number
GCG 11, when the gunmen overtook his vehicle around Akpajo area, and
opened fire on him at about 8:15 p.m. on Sunday.
