Why The Strike Will Continue – ASUU
Public university lecturers on Sunday insisted that they would not return to the classrooms on Monday (today). They also accused the Federal Government of insincerity in its bid to
resolve its dispute with the Academic Staff Union of Universities. The President of ASUU, Dr. Nasir Fagge, confirmed this on Sunday via a Short Message Service to an enquiry by The PUNCH.
Three Siblings Burnt To Death In Lagos
A one and a half year old child with two of his siblings
were, weekend burnt to death in an inferno that engulfed a building and
a church in Iba Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Lagos State,
leaving property worth millions of Naira destroyed. Also, two unidentified dredgers got drowned in a 70-feet domestic well in Ojo Local Government, Lagos.
The List Of Songs Reportedly Banned By NBC
25 local and foreign famous songs have been reportedly banned by The
Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for containing obscene lyrics and
visuals. Artistes ‘affected’ include Davido, D’banj, Olamide, Timaya,
Wizkid, Skukin Olu Maintain, Phyno, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, 2Chainz to
mention a few. A circular has reportedly been issued to media houses to
its effect.
Drogba and Eboue face fines over Mandela tributes
The two Ivory Coast internationals unveiled their personal
messages after Galatasaray’s game against Elazigspor on Friday, their
first game after the death of South African icon Mandela. Chelsea legend Drogba peeled off his shirt at the 2-0 win to reveal a
tribute which said: ‘Thank you Madiba’ and former Arsenal defender
Eboue’s vest said: ‘Rest in Peace Nelson Mandela’.

The University of Benin yesterday stood still in honour of former
President, Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Late Prof. Festus
Iyayi as it declared the Late Don irreplaceable. This came as one of the officiating Priests at the lying- in state
ceremony held at the Akindeko Main Auditorium in honour of the former
President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof.
Festus Iyayi drew the ire of a cross-section of members of the academic
community, civil society organizations when in his homily, he appealed
to ASUU to suspend their six months old strike.
