2015 General Elections May Hold In January – Jega

If the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has its way, the 2015 general elections may hold in either January or February of that year. The last general elections held in April, 2011 and the commission recalled that if not for the Voter Registration exercise which preceded that year’s elections, it would have been held on an earlier date to give room for imminent legal actions to be resolved before the inauguration date of May 29th.

ASUU STRIKE: FG Fights Back

As the ongoing strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, enters the fourth month, there are strong indications that the Federal Government has commenced the implementation of the “No Work, No Pay” rule. It was gathered from a reliable source at the National Universities Commission, NUC, that the government has passed a directive to the various universities governing councils to stop payment of salaries of the striking lecturers.

Eid-el-Kabir: Monday Not Public Holiday, Says FG

Contrary to speculation in some quarters that changes have been made in the dates earlier declared as public holidays in commemoration of the Eid-el-Kabir festival, the Federal Government has reiterated that Monday is a working day.  The Federal Government, through the Minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro said the clarification became necessary following  the strings of misinformation said to be publicized by some media houses in the country. Mr. Moro reaffirmed that the dates of the Sallah holiday still remains Tuesday, 15th and Wednesday, 16th October, 2013 and “wishes all Nigerians a most rewarding and peaceful celebration.”

ASUU Strike: How FG, ASUU Faceoff Can Be Resolved By Atiku

A former vice-president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has proffered solution to the lingering strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the Federal Government and the varsity lecturers should sign a faith agreement that would be endorsed by the National Assembly and a Federal Court.
He also reminded the striking lecturers that the funding of education cannot be shouldered by the Federal Government alone, adding that ASUU is fighting for nothing “aside from being paid better salaries.”

Government Destroys Mountain Of Fire Church Regional Headquaters

After over one year of battle between the Enugu State Government and the Mountain of Fire Ministries, the Church’s regional headquarters located at Zik Avenue, Enugu was leveled yesterday morning. The Church had earlier dragged the government to court over the matter last year, a situation that led to what seemed to be an out-of-court resolution of the matter.

Amaechi, New PDP Behind Lingering ASUU Strike – Wike

The Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike has accused Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and his cohorts in the new Peoples’ Democratic Party, nPDP, of being behind the prolonged strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. Wike, who spoke through the Secretary-General of the Grassroots Development Initiative, GDI, Samuel Nwanosike, also called on well-meaning Nigerians to call Gov. Amaechi to order and stop embarrassing people of Rivers State.
