Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima yesterday broke down in
tears over the federal government’s perceived indifference to the plight
of the people of the state since the insurgency began. Shettima, while presenting KYAN machines to 40 teachers trained in
India at the Government House, Maiduguri, noted that the federal
government gave N25 billion to communities affected by oil spillage in
Cross Rivers, N3 billion to the Nollywood and Borno, seriously affected
by the activities of Boko Haram over the last four years, was given a
paltry N200 million as assistance. He said the money paled to insignificance when put side-by-side the
magnitude of killings and destruction of both public and private
properties worth billions of naira by terrorists Insurgency, he explained, is worse than the Niger Delta crisis, oil
spillage that affected only crops and farm lands as against deaths
arising from bombings, burning of properties as experienced in the state
in the last four years. In tears, Shettima said: “Power belongs to God and he gives it to
whoever He wants. Nobody is interested in assisting Borno. We have spent
billions in trying to bring peace to the state and the federal
government gave just a meagre N200million and this is the same
government that gave N25 billion to Cross River State and N3 billion to
Nollywood.”
