Arsenal sign their former midfielder Mathieu Flamini on a free transfer

The French midfielder has rejoined Arsenal as a free agent after five years at AC Milan.
Flamini, 29, played 153 times for Arsenal between 2004 and 2008.
A defensive midfielder by trade, he often found himself used as a full-back and was regarded as a handy utility player without ever really becoming a star. He found his path in central midfield blocked by the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Gilberto Silva and Abou Diaby and it was no particular surprise when he left to join AC Milan in 2008. His time in the famous red and black stripes began encouragingly with some strong performances at full-back, although he was again used more as a utility player and soon found himself switched back to defensive midfield. A serious knee injury saw him miss all but two games of the 2011-2012 season although he did play 21 times for Milan last term. His contract ended last season and he has been a free agent since.
