Division In ASUU Over Move To Call Off Strike

The hope that the four month old strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, may be called off this week, following President Goodluck Jonathan’s intervention last week, may be dashed as the 61 chapters of the union are divided over the move to call off the strike.

ASUU Expected To Call Off Strike This Week

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, may call off its four-month-old strike this week, as all chapters of the union are expected to hold their congresses today to brief members on President Goodluck Jonathan’s latest offer. Speaking to Vanguard, a branch Chairman of ASUU said the meeting was for the chairmen to brief members on the outcome of their meeting with President Jonathan.

ASUU Leader: We Won’t Stop Strike Till We Discuss Jonathan’s New Offer

After 13 hours of negotiations with the Federal Government, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) got yesterday another offer towards the resolution of the crisis that has crippled the campuses for over four months. But ASUU President Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge, did not disclose the new Federal Government’s offer, insisting that its members have the final say on the issue.

ASUU Strike May End In Days

Strong indications have emerged that the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, may end in the next one week, following a 13-hour meeting than ran from Monday afternoon into the early hours of Tuesday, between the union and the federal government.
